FILMMAKER’S BIO

clips.html

Aaron Lubarsky (Producer, Director, Editor) is the founder of Flicker Flacker Films, a documentary film and television production company.  He co-directed and edited the Emmy-award winning documentary Journeys with George about the 2000 presidential campaign. The film aired on HBO and was nominated for 6 Emmys.  Lubarsky was nominated as director and editor and won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Editing.

He directed and edited Seoul Train, about the underground railroad in North Korea and China. The film screened at over 50 festivals worldwide, aired nationally on PBS and received the Columbia duPont award for documentary journalism.

Other directing credits include Uncle Eugene, a portrait of schizophrenia, which won the Documentary Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco International film festival and Lookalike about the surreal lives of celebrity look-a-likes, broadcast on AMC.

He attended Stanford University's Documentary Film Program where his thesis film Wayne Freedman's Notebook won a Student Academy Award.  After graduating he worked on the documentary team at Lucasfilm for Star Wars: Episode 1.

Editing credits include the IFC theatrical film Matthew Barney: No Restraint and the Emmy-award winning HBO documentary Assault In The Ring.

Most recently he produced and directed a feature documentary about immigration and naturalization, working with Jon Stewart's Busboy Productions, A&E Indie Films and the History Channel. The Naturalized will be released in the Fall of 2010.

“You may have seen them on TV, faces painted wild, absurdly costumed in their team’s colors, brandishing flags like warriors ready to splatter their innards in battle, every pulsating vein in their bodies throbbing with that primal scream: ARRRGHHHHH!!! A scream that if translated into English would fill volumes of writings on Death, Eros, Belonging, Mass Culture, Fascism and the possible fall of every Empire since spectator sport was invented. Or, skip the library and be seduced by A Fan For All Seasons, a year in the life of a group of hard-core Minnesota Vikings fans. Theirs is not a tale of mass hysteria, but of personal tragedies and grand delusions. Maybe it’s their Midwest manners - that mix of American innocence and steadfast faith in the impossible - coupled with a dark and sweet Beckett-like sense of humor that gives this entertaining film its veneer of surrealism. It might be just enough to forever change your idea of what a fanatic can be.”
